Poem Poetry Winter
The Selected Poems of Yvor Winters by Yvor Winters, As part of the ongoing effort of the Ohio University Press/Swallow Press to reintroduce the work of a number of significant twentieth-century poets to a new generation of readers, we are especially enthusiastic about publishing the selected poems of Yvor Winters, whose work and influence was so central to the development of the poetry list at Swallow Press. Yvor Winters (1900-1968) was a friend, colleague, and teacher to poets of several generations from Hart Crane and Allen Tate to J. V. Cunningham, Turner Cassity, and Edgar Bowers to Robert Hass, Philip Levine, and Robert Pinsky. His impact on mid-to-late twentieth-century poetry is profound. This stems in large part from his poetry, which was a reflection of his critical thinking about poetry, and which underwent substantive changes over his career as a poet. His collected poems won the Bollingen Prize in 1960.
The Gods of Winter: Poems by Dana Gioia, "In his best poems, Gioia rises to the occasion of all great poetry: to immortalize our experience by submitting it to the tests of tradition and inspiration. Anyone who really wants to know the answer to the question, 'Can poetry matter?' will find that "The Gods of Winter" is full of answers."--Thomas D'Evelyn, "The Christian Science Monitor" "In two exquisitely wrought books . . . he has already established himself as a poet with a permanent place in the canon of American poetry."--Robert McPhillips, "Verse" ""The Gods of Winter" is an important book, if only because it exemplifies Gioia's courageously aesthetic approach to poetry--to its language and rhythms. Fortunately for those of us who agree with him, it is also a good book. His poems are limpid, mellifluous, quotable and likely to be loved.
Anagrammatic poem - Anagramatic poetry is poetry with the constrained form that either each line or each verse is an anagram of all other lines or verses in the poem. Concrete poetry - Concrete poetry is poetry in which the typographical arrangement of words is as important in conveying the intended effect as the conventional elements of the poem, such as meaning of words, rhythm, rhyme and so on. It is the self-consciously radical form of the technique of visual poetry (a term sometimes applied to concrete poetry). Fluxus poetry - Fluxus poetry is normally created during a performance, an essential difference with visual poetry. The result of the performance can be a text, a visual poem, etc. Shi (poetry) - Shi (è©©) is the Chinese word for "poem"; it can also be used to mean Chinese poetry other than lyrics, or (most commonly) the classical form of poetry developed in the late Han dynasty and which reached its zenith in the Tang dynasty.
