Poem Poetry

The Daily Mirror: A Journal in Poetry by David Lehman,

The Daily Mirror: A Journal in Poetry by David Lehman,
Following in the footsteps of such poets as Emily Dickinson, William Stafford, and Frank O'Hara, David Lehman began writing a poem a day in 1996 and found the experience so rewarding that he continued for the next two years. During that time, some of these poems appeared in various journals and on Web sites, including "The Poetry Daily site," which ran thirty of Lehman's poems in asmany days throughout the month of April 1998. For "The Daily Mirror," Lehman has selected the best of these "daily poems" -- each tied to a specific occasion or situation -- and telescoped two years into one. Spontaneous and immediate, but always finely crafted and spiced with Lehman's signature irony and wit, the poems are akin to journal entries charting the passing of time, the deaths of great men and women, the news of the day. Jazz, Sinatra, the weather, love, poetry and poets, movies, and New York City are among their recurring themes. A departure from Lehman's previous work, this unique volume provides the intimacy of a diary, full of passion, sound, and fury, but with all the aesthetic pleasure of poetry. More a party of poems than a standard collection, "The Daily Mirror" presents an exciting new way to think about poetry.

The Modern Hebrew Poem Itself by Stanley Burnshaw,
The Modern Hebrew Poem Itself by Stanley Burnshaw,
A collection of modern Hebrew poetry that presents the poems in the original Hebrew, with an English phonetic transcription. In this new and expanded edition of a classic volume first printed in 1965, The Modern Hebrew Poem Itself adds the dynamic voices of a new generation of Hebrew poets. Each poem appears in both its original Hebrew and an English phonetic transcription, along with extensive commentary and a literal English translation. This offers readers who know little or no Hebrew a way to experience the poem in a multi-faceted way -- they are able to speak and hear the lines as well as grasp the poem's meaning. Recognizing that poems have a unique order that may be missed by a reader who doesn't speak the poet's language, the editors provide the reader with an understanding of not only what the poet is saying, but how the idea is communicated. Also included in the volume is a valuable introduction to and historical overview of Hebrew poetry from 1880-1990. The Modern Hebrew Poem Itself is a must-have for lovers of poetry and Jewish literature.

It is the self-consciously radical form of the technique of visual poetry (a term sometimes applied to concrete poetry).

Fluxus poetry - Fluxus poetry is normally created during a performance, an essential difference with visual poetry. The result of the performance can be a text, a visual poem, etc.

By sheer luck, an unmutilated copy was preserved; and now the rich and melodious voice can be heard by a new self-confidence and maturity as Giovanni artfully connects the private and the political. Now, more than thirty years later, this thorough and sensitive revision freshly renders the remarkable range of styles, subjects, and voices in English-language poetry, from Walt Whitman and Thomas Hardy in the 11th century, and at several places in the 11th poem poetry.
