In Fine Form: The Canadian Book of Form Poetry
A survey of Canadian poetic form, with hundreds of examples past and present, "In Fine Form features the work of Robert Service, Margaret Atwood, Molly Peacock, Leonard Cohen, George Elliott Clarke, and other noted poets. Canada's "form poetry" arises from the country's distinct geography and cultural mix, with subjects ranging from physical work like farming and fishing, to the French influence, to more timeless natural and abstract themes. This anthology, beginning in the 16th century, is arranged by sections, one for each form, with a brief introduction to that form's conventions and variations. The poems in each section appear chronologically (by birth date of poet) to show historical and modern examples that showcase the best the country has produced.

The Body of Poetry: Essays on Women, Form, and the Poetic Self
The Body of Poetry: Essays on Women, Form, and the Poetic Self
"The Body of Poetry collects essays, reviews, and memoir by Annie Finch, one of the brightest poet-critics of her generation. Finch's germinal work on the art of verse has earned her the admiration of a wide range of poets, from new formalists to hip-hop writers. And her ongoing commitment to women's poetry has brought Finch a substantial following as a "postmodern poetess" whose critical writing embraces the past while establishing bold new traditions. "The Body of Poetry includes essays on metrical diversity, poetry and music, the place of women poets in the canon, and on poets Emily Dickinson, Phillis Wheatley, Sara Teasdale, Audre Lorde, Marilyn Hacker, and John Peck, among other topics. In Annie Finch's own words, these essays were all written with one aim: "to build a safe space for my own poetry. . . . [I]n the attempt, they will also have helped to nourish a new kind of American poetics, one that will prove increasingly open to poetry's heart.

Concrete poetry - Concrete poetry is poetry in which the typographical arrangement of words is as important in conveying the intended effect as the conventional elements of the poem, such as meaning of words, rhythm, rhyme and so on. It is the self-consciously radical form of the technique of visual poetry (a term sometimes applied to concrete poetry).

Poetry - Poetry (ancient Greek: ποιεω (poieo) = I create) is traditionally a written art form (although there is also an ancient and modern poetry which relies mainly upon oral or pictorial representations) in which human language is used for its aesthetic qualities in addition to, or instead of, its notional and semantic content. The increased emphasis on the aesthetics of language and the deliberate use of features such as repetition, meter and rhyme, are what are commonly used to distinguish ...

Lyric poetry - Lyric poetry is a form of poetry that does not attempt to tell a story, as do epic poetry and dramatic poetry, but is of a more personal nature instead. Rather than portraying characters and actions, the lyric poet addresses the reader directly, portraying his or her own feelings, states of mind, and perceptions.
